Transition seeks to raise awareness about climate change and encourage local action to reduce fossil fuel use.

Ordinary people come up with optimistic and practical projects in their own areas.

We are part of a worldwide Transition Network of over 1,000 groups.

Transition West Gateshead covers Winlaton Mill, Rowlands Gill, Blackhall Mill, Chopwell, High Spen, Winlaton, Blaydon Crawcrook, Ryton, Clara Vale and Greenside.

We focus on four topics where we can make a difference together:

  • Food
  • Waste and consumption
  • Energy
  • Transport

Our events are supported by Leaf Fund (Community Foundation)

We launched in October 2014 with an event in Greenside.

A great afternoon of soup, music and discussion, which set the pathway for Transition West Gateshead.

In January 2015 an event to encourage “Reduce, Reuse, Repair and Recycle” was held in Rowlands Gill. It included a SWAP STALL for people to bring and take away unwanted stuff.

Local Food Festival, July 2015

Our summer festival at Blaydon Burn Farm celebrated local food production, with live music, woodland walks and upcycling activities for children. Hundreds of people came along.

“Tools for Green Thinking” Course – September 2015

Held in association with the Workers’ Educational Association, in Clara Vale, an opportunity for local people to think what they can do to improve their world.

The future…

We have many ideas for the future and would love more people to join us. Please get in touch – everyone can contribute.
