Less than 2 weeks to the Food Festival

Only 2 weeks to go now to the TwiG Local Food festival at Blaydon Burn. Remember the date – Saturday 15th. July 12.00 noon -4.00 p.m. £1 entrance fee, 50 p for children. We’d love to see you there , mingling, shopping, eating, bopping and laughing, but we’d also really really love to see you there giving us a hand for an hour during the day as we have had some volunteers drop out. All the usual favourites this year – The Pickle Palace and the Paddock will be combining to produce vegetarian and vegan curries and festival grub made from waste veggies, as well as selling the usual pickles, chutneys, jams and local cheeses and eggs, Gibside Community Farm will be bringing veg and flowers, Jonathan Wallace will have jams, preserves and quail and duck eggs, Wildfire bakery will have bread and savouries, The Hop Garden with living salads and lovely cooling drinks, Earth and Fire from Gibside will be there with pizzas and there will be a hog roast and BBQ from High Strothers Farm, High Spen. Once again Coalburns pub are putting on a bar of local brews, including a festival beer (this year it’s rhubarb, elderflower and vanilla).
New this year we have locally produced cider and other goods from Quirky to the Core, honey from Blaydon honey (the bees forage at Blaydon Burn), Gluten-free treats from Liz’s Supper Club and crepes using local produce from Flip’n Fast. There will also be a stall selling equipment for the outdoor life – bushcrafts and traditional wood crafts.
Music will be from 10th. Avenue Band , Jammshed (previously Sleeping Dogs) and the Elderly Brothers. There will be a local history walk, a foraging introduction in the local woods, tombola, upcycling activities for children and face-painting
TwiG will be launching its new local food map and giving info about how to reduce your carbon use. We will also be supplying teas, herb teas (from our own gardens) and coffees, and selling plants from Tom and Joe’s.
